Local Education Coordinator

Summary
Incumbent is responsible for the coordination of all local activities of the Culture and Language project. To include: organize the local Community Native Education Council, schedule and hold meetings a minimum of eight times per year, work with the Regional Education Coordinator, Community Council, and school staff and administration on the development of kits to teach the cultural history and heritage of the Chugach Region. Provide local program management and oversight: maintain regular contact with the Chugachmiut office and the Regional Education Coordinator; develop brief monthly narrative and quarterly objective reports; meet with the tribal council at their regular monthly meetings and make an oral report on program activities; meet with the school staff regularly to keep them informed of project activities; participate in the annual evaluation of the project as requested by the outside evaluator. Occasional travel in light aircraft is required. Attending the Quarterly Regional Conferences and participate in weekly teleconferences is mandatory
Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Fluency and literacy in the Alutiiq language is preferred. Computer experience is preferred. Previous experience in an educational setting is preferred. Preference for a person with knowledge of the local community and the Chugach Region will be given.

This position is community based position according to program need. The position is 5 days a week – 4 to 6 hours a day. Hours of work are dependent on schedule selected by parents for classroom and home visits. This is a 9-10 month annual position with program continuation based on funding availability. Chugachmiut maintains a non-smoking environment. Position may require occasional travel to other communities throughout the region and employees must be able to travel in small aircraft.
