Position Summary
Primary responsibilities include providing direct Mental Health & Chemical Dependency services to beneficiaries residing in the communities of Seward, Port Graham, Nanwalek, Tatitlek, and Chenega Bay, who have mental health, substance abuse or co-occurring diagnoses. Provider will conduct mental health intakes, substance abuse assessments, individual, family and group treatment to beneficiaries and their families, crisis services and case management services. Responsibilities also include serving as consultant for program services to Chugachmiut staff, and communities, working with tribal councils to increase understanding of individual and community behavioral health issues and service delivery. This position is in the Behavioral Health Department within the Community and Family Services Division and under the supervision of the Behavioral Health Manager.
- A Masters’ degree in Social Work, Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, or a related field is required.
- Must have or be eligible and/or working towards State of Alaska Licensure in respective field.
- Minimum of two years of experience or specific education in cross-cultural service delivery is preferred, with preference given to those with experience in service delivery in rural areas, with Alaska Native or other tribal people.
- Experience in working with substance abuse, mental health problems, family dysfunction, and other social problems.
- Must be experienced in the application of basic community organizational theory in rural settings.
- Must be able to exercise discretion and independent judgment in all areas of job performance including adherence to appropriate professional boundaries and strict confidentiality practices in regard to client activities and documentation.
- Be able to apply clinical judgment, ethics, and accountability to formulate and implement treatment plans and other clinical documentation.
- Must be able to successfully pass a background check and a driving record check.

This will be a ¾ to full-time position. This position is community (village) based with an office in one of the regional hubs, Seward, Anchorage, and Homer or can be in a village. Services are delivered with frequent, weekly overnight travel in light aircraft to select communities in the Chugach Region. Hours of work when in the designated office will vary from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with one hour for lunch, if not in the village and without prior authorization otherwise. Hours in the village communities are expected to be flexible to accommodate after hours emergencies and community activities. Hours for travel days begin when arriving at the airport. The employee is expected to provide emergency contact numbers (cell phone, etc.) in order to be available for emergency call and/or to share in rotating on-call responsibility with other Behavioral Health staff as needed. Chugachmiut maintains a drug and alcohol free/non-smoking environment.
