This a three year grant to generate tribal capacity for empowering strong Alaska Native families through responsible father involvement and healthy marriages.  The project supports the Administration for Native Americans’ goals of promoting self-sufficiency through social development for families and rural communities.

Wise Fathers, Well Families will build upon the existing assets of experienced, successful Native fathers, mothers and families in their respective communities.  Local Coordinators will be recruited in each community so that local project plans can be developed and implemented with Chugachmiut.  Chugachmiut will provide community trainings, workshops and family coaching for couples and individuals with children.  Local Coordinators will be encouraged to explore involvement in grass roots activities such as mentoring, family coaching, and support group facilitation.  Additionally, Chugachmiut will place strong emphasis on the formal development and cultivation of local long-term Wise Fathers, Well Families programs that actively collaborate with other local social programs and Chugachmiut social services.
