2008 Sugcestun Language Immersion

Chugachmiut Culture and Language Program is delighted to extend an invitation to fluent Sugpiaq speakers and those who are committed in learning the indigenous language of the Chugach region to take part in the 2008 Sugcestun Language Immersion Camp in Paluwik (Port Graham), Alaska. Qutekcak Native Tribe is pleased to host its first Alaska Native Arts and Crafts Fair on Sunday, May 18, 2008 in Seward, Alaska. Global Youth Service Day - 2008
Millions of youth participate in Global Youth Service Day, the largest service event in the world. They tutor young children, engage in disaster relief, register new voters, educate their communities about good nutrition, distribute HIV/AIDs prevention materials and meet many more community needs through their service. Global Youth Service Day supports youth on a life-long path of service and civic engagement, and educates the public, the media, and elected officials about the role of youth as community leaders. Chugachmiut and Community Wellness Program recognized by Centers for Disease Control
Heather Davis, MPH, Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Program Manager and the Community Wellness Advocate Program were recognized by Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) (funded by CDC) for their work with local communities in increasing awareness of heart disease and promoting healthy lifestyles.
