Established in May 2005 as a Type II Hand Crew, the Yukon Fire Crew received Initial-Attack status in 2006. Chugachmiut has been a nationally recognized player in wildland firefighting since 1998. The crew are ready to fight fires throughout Alaska and the western United States and perform fire fuels project work to reduce the likelihood of wild fires in certain areas.
Join the Denali Wildland Fire Module or Yukon Fire Crew in Kenai! You will be exposed to challenging and rewarding work while learning the fundamentals of wildland firefighting. We are looking for motivated individuals with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn. Most positions are full-time seasonal with an approximate six-month appointment. Our vision is to revitalize the traditional Chugach Native culture and language. The goal is to make Sugpiaq/ Eyak history and heritage a part of the regular school curriculum with support and direction from our Elders’ traditional ecological knowledge (TEK).
