Cama’i! Chugachmiut’s next Nupuat Newsletter will be published in June 2024, and we are putting out a call for submissions for content.

Have an update, story, essay or poetry to share? Have some suggested topics or feedback for our newsletter? We welcome submissions from Tribal/community members, councils and employees.

To submit ideas, articles, stories, poetry, pictures for use in the Nupuat, please email to media@Chugachmiut.org along with a short bio of yourself. The submission deadline is Thursday, May 31, 2024.

Note – While we aim to showcase a wide range of topics from around the Chugach region, there is no guarantee all submissions will be published. Content may be edited for grammar and style, and audience. By submitting your work, you grant us permission to publish it in the newsletter.

Please note, if you miss the cut-off for this quarter’s newsletter, we may consider it for the next one. Please reach out with any questions. Quyanaa & AwA’ahdah for your submissions! We look forward to reviewing them.

📸About the Cover: Chugachmiut Heritage Preservation hosted summer camps with Accessing Choices in Education (ACE), a program that allows us to provide educational opportunities for students in our communities that are Alaska Native to meet their educational goals. Chugachmiut has operated the North Star Health Clinic since 1987 in Seward but, by January 2025, the 19,475 square-foot Chugachmiut Regional Health Clinic will be constructed and operating. The Center will serve as Chugachmiut’s regional medical hub providing medical, dental, and behavioral health services for Alaskans in medically underserved areas within our region. 📸About the Cover: Chugachmiut Elders and community members visited the Ethnological Museum of Berlin in Germany. The Elders and community members included William Smith of Valdez, Pamela Smith of Cordova, Eric Clock of Seward, Brandon Moonin of Tatitlek, Deborah McMullen of Port Graham, Vincent Evans of Nanwalek, and John Johnson and Tatianna Turner from Chugach Alaska Corporation. They were engaging with artifacts that were taken from the Chugachmiut communities in the late 19th century and documenting important cultural knowledge and stories.
