What does power mean to you? How do regular outages affect your life, your family, or your community?

Chugachmiut is launching the Power the Peninsula Contest as part of our campaign to raise awareness about the urgent need for upgrades to our aging power systems. Many of our communities experience regular outages, and we want to hear from the individuals who are most affected. We invite youth (18 and under) from the Chugach region to submit artwork that shows how electricity (or the lack of it) affects their lives. This is your chance to tell your story creatively, whether through drawings, paintings, digital art, or any other visual form.

Deadline: Friday, September 30, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. (AKST).

What We’re Looking For

Electricity impacts nearly every aspect of our lives, including turning on lights, charging phones, preserving food, and keeping us warm. However, in Nanwalek and Port Graham, the power system is outdated and unreliable. You can be serious, hopeful, funny, abstract, or bold.

Your artwork might explore how you use electricity at home or school, how power outages affect your daily life or what “power” means in a cultural or personal sense. Overall, just be yourself.
